Muir. 35. London. Fotograf.

Muir Vidler schießt Bilder, die so schnell nicht mehr aus dem Gedächtnis verschwinden. Vor ein paar Wochen stießen wir auf sein beeindruckendes Portfolio, das sich blättert wie eine lange, spannende Reportage.

Der Mann, dessen Arbeiten heute u.a. im New York Times Magazine, der ZEIT oder dem VICE Magazin zu finden sind, schlug sich vor der schillernden Karriere als Fotograf mit Gelegenheitsjobs durch. Er arbeitete als Koch, verdiente etwas Geld als Straßenkünstler und landete später als Fotograf auf einem Kreuzfahrtschiff. Schließlich zog er 2000 nach London und studierte Fotojournalismus am London College of Printing.

Bilderreihen wie Rebels Without a Pause, Israeli Death Metal oder eine Strecke über Skateboardpionier Tony Alva sprechen eine klare, ehrliche Sprache. Extreme Motive und unverblümte Realitäten sind das Markenzeichen Muirs und ließen ihn zu einem international anerkannten Fotografen aufsteigen.

DOING is the very important step that should come after THINKING and TALKING. It’s the step that upgrades an idea from just being BULLSHIT.

It’s the absence of DOING – the thing that leaves you stranded in the TALKING and BULLSHITTING stages.

Go somewhere to photograph someone, introduce myself, look around the space and wonder how I’m going to do it, decide on something, keep up a stream of hopefully soothing chatter as I snap away, and then toddle off back to my office for a cup of tea…

… been my older brother probably, as he introduced me to lots of music, books etc when I was young.
